Pulsars, discovered by Jocelyn Bell Burnell in 1967, are pulsating neutron stars that send out beams of radiation as a lighthouse might. Its extreme magnetic field causes the pulse affect. The quasar is bigger, brighter, older, further away and associated with black holes. A quasar is a galaxy, far away. Not a star.
